We’ve been reading the book ‘The Car Hacker’s Handbook’ that was recommended by Prof Haluk Eren. This book is a must-read for anyone who wants’s to know about vehicular exploitation and how to fix them.
Autonomous vehicles manoeuvre in traffic through road networks without requiring humans as supervisors or decision-makers is intriguing and this episode of the podcast did a great in helping to make things simpler.
The book “The Car Hackers Handbook” by Craig Smith is a must-read for anyone working in automotive security. Also, I think this book provides security awareness about security issues related to cars. Hence, it provides enough information and technology required by the automotive industry during the development lifecycle of an automotive vehicle that is highly secured.
The Car hacker’s book is well organized, which tried to start from beginners’ level and open our mind before diving into the book. As Internet has taken over all aspect life, we are now moving to smart cities and it comes to with a lot of challenges as it leaves it users vulnerable to attack from malicious people through it navigation system, infotainment systems, connectivity system, etc. It trains the reader to understand the vehicle computer system, embedded software, and their vulnerabilities along with a detailed explanation of how the CANBus of a vehicle communicates with devices that receive and send messages to it.
The reader/technician can intercept data, perform specific hacks to track vehicle once stolen, and the use of some open tools to render some services, and also help to understand specific threats models to access high-risk vehicle part and understand various Bus protocols. Nice book! to learn a lot plus reverse engineering for securing oneself.

Though these vehicles are able to drive themselves, but i think the ones that are meant to convey a number of people need to be attached with a driver or simply a Safety Personnel. this safety personnel can take control of the car in a case of any emergency to safe lives.
i have also read the Car Hacker’s Handbook. it’s indeed a very rich book when it comes to understanding a car’s communication system. Thank Prof Haluk Eren for the review.
